Ways to get paid
Your shoppers pick at checkout, and every order is charged in your store’s own currency.
Cash on delivery
On by default, no setup. The order is recorded as awaiting payment and you mark it paid once you collect.
Card
Shoppers pay by card on a secure hosted page and come back to your confirmation page, which updates itself while the payment is being confirmed. The order flips to Paid on its own when the payment confirms — you never mark card orders manually.
mada
Saudi debit cards, for stores priced in SAR. Off until you switch it on in the Shipping tab, under Payment methods. It can only be switched on for a store that charges in riyals, because that is the currency mada settles in; a store priced in any other currency never shows it. Shoppers pay on a secure Tap payment page and come back to your confirmation page, and the order flips to Paid on its own when the payment confirms.
Apple Pay
Also off until you switch it on, in the same place, and not tied to riyals the way mada is. Shoppers pay on the same secure Tap page, where Apple Pay appears only in Safari and on iPhone, iPad and Mac. The checkout says so beside the option, so a shopper on another browser picks another way to pay. If Tap cannot take Apple Pay in your store’s currency, the shopper is told at checkout and their cart is kept. Like card and mada, the order becomes Paid on its own.
Tabby & Tamara
Buy-now-pay-later, not available yet: each is off until you switch it on in the same place, and a shopper can only pay with it once the provider has been activated on the payment account, which has not happened yet (see the beta note below). Until then, leave both off: a shopper who picked one could not complete the payment. Once activated, Tabby can be switched on only for stores priced in AED, SAR or KWD, and Tamara only for AED or SAR. Shoppers split the total into instalments, and the provider settles the whole amount at once, less its fee. Tabby needs the shopper’s mobile number: written with its country code (+971…), or the usual 05… form when the order ships within Saudi Arabia or the UAE.
When a payment doesn’t go through
An order paid by card, mada, Apple Pay, Tabby or Tamara holds its items and any discount code while the shopper pays. If the payment doesn’t happen, the order is cancelled on its own: the items go back into your stock and the discount code gets its use back. You don’t need to do anything; the order simply shows as Cancelled.
- The provider refuses, or doesn’t answer in time, at checkout. The shopper is told on the spot, their cart is still there, and they can choose another way to pay.
- You switch a way to pay off while a shopper is checking out. If they then choose it, nothing is ordered: they are asked to pick another way to pay, and their cart is kept. It is never quietly turned into cash on delivery.
- The shopper backs out of the card page, or the payment is declined on the mada, Apple Pay, Tabby or Tamara page. They land back on their cart with a short note that nothing was charged.
- The shopper presses the pay button twice. One order is placed and one payment page is opened, and the shopper is taken to that page. If it is still being opened at that moment, their order page says so and then offers Continue to payment; for a card payment it also offers Cancel and get my basket back, which ends the card page and gives the stock, the discount code and the cart back. (A mada, Apple Pay, Tabby or Tamara page has its own cancel, which brings the shopper back to their cart the same way.)
- The shopper just leaves. A card payment page stops accepting payment after an hour, and the order is cancelled within about an hour and a half of being placed. A mada, Apple Pay, Tabby or Tamara order is cancelled once the provider reports the payment failed, and never later than a day, as long as the provider can be reached. While it cannot, the order waits rather than risk cancelling a payment that did go through.
- You cancel an order that is still waiting for its payment. We ask the provider first. If the shopper has just paid, the order is confirmed as paid instead. If the provider cannot say yet (the payment page is still open, or the provider is not answering), the order is not cancelled and you are asked to try again in a few minutes. A mada, Apple Pay, Tabby or Tamara payment page expires 30 minutes after the order is placed. If the provider has no record of the payment at all, the order is kept for a day after it was placed and is then cancelled on its own; you can cancel it yourself from then, not before. We never switch the payment account behind your store while orders are waiting for their payment: that is what lets “no record” be read as “not paid”.
Until then, an order waiting for its payment says so in your order list. Don’t ship it until it shows Paid.
Currency
Shoppers can browse prices converted into another currency, and every cart page then says which currency they will actually be charged in. Orders are charged and recorded in your store’s currency, so your books stay in one currency no matter how a shopper browsed.
